For the past 25 years, I've played saxophone all over the world in symphony orchestras, clubs, theatres, and festivals and in award-winning West End shows. You might have also heard my sax sounds on top-rating TV shows like "24" and "Bones". Fair to say, I've learned a lot about playing saxophone - and teaching it.

It was, frankly, the only beginner horn I tried in that particular shop that didn't need some minor adjusting and leak fixes. It was very much "ready to go."
Different Neck for Series ii Tenor. I’ve been looking into purchasing a new neck for my selmer series ii tenor. However, I know how odd the neck is on series ii’s compared to many other horns. (Many the octave key sticks way up on the body, so the receiver is much higher than most necks). I had always expected the V12s to be even more resistant than the blue box. The V21s were more responsive than the blue box reeds, but articulation was a little mushy. I don't think it's the Leather or metal that changes the sound I would say it's the pressure plate that makes the difference. Some leatherligs have plastic pressure plates and that will make the sound darker (for example BG Standard) and some have metal that makes the sound a little brighter for ...

I play tested two Buffet-Crampon Baritone Saxophones - one lacquered, one matte; two Selmers, a Series Three and Series Two; and a Antiqua, black lacquer. The only one that came close to my Yamaha was the Antiqua. The Selmers were on par with the Buffet-Cramons.I was in neighboring Brighton yesterday, will have to check out his shop some day.
