I ran an 04 NV4500 from a 1/2 ton truck in my 85 turbocharged 6.2l diesel 4x4 on 1 tons, locked with 37s and never hurt it despite some considerable abuse on my part. The stock 4l60e 4l65e 4l70e's have a "factory" rated torque limit. IIRC its 360 lb/ft for the 60e, and 380 for the 65e and 400 for the 70e.
